Up goes the fence

Hi Friends,

A lot has happened the last weeks an I want to share it with you.

The garden part has been fenced in with a pro grade livestock fence. This is a fairly cheap but yet durable solution. The fence itself costs you around 50 to 70 € for 50m. You can decide if you purchase metal supports as we did or wooden stakes which I would only recommend if you have a lumber source on site. Gates and their dimension should also be considered. If you decide on wooden stakes simply drive them into the ground with a sledgehammer. If your soil is filled with stones like ours is, hammering would not get you very far. In this case my recommendation is a petrol powered auger. You can rent them at you next Home Depot, Obi, Hornbach, etc. Poles every 2 to 3 m are good. You might have to adjust as you sometime hit a big rock or something else that you have to work around. Once you have the pole in the hole (make sure you they are at the same height and straiten them out with a water level) fill it back up with soil or if you want more stability use concrete. Once the poles are stable you good to start hanging the fence on them. And it is literally just hanging the horizontal wires in little hooks and bending the hooks back to secure the fence. The tricky part is to handle the whole roll of 50m of steel wire. A few strong friends come in very handy at this point. I am pretty happy with ours and it should keep out wild animals that would otherwise eat young plants and nibble on freshly planted trees. Time will tell if we did it well.

Here are few pictures of our results:
